For trade justice - lets make a market together!

Within the context of the Millennium Development Goals campaign and at the time of the Global Week of Action on Trade (10 to April 16) and of the international day of the peasant farmer (April 17), a number of French associations have chosen to mobilize in Paris, April 16 and 17 2005.

International solidarity organisations, fair trade organisations, consumers, environmental groups, citizens, peasants and farmers, joined together within 3 main coalitions - Plate-forme pour des agricultures durables et solidaires (PFADS), Plate-forme du commerce équitable (PFCE) and "2005 : plus d'excuses!"

The aims are to:

  • Explode the myth that free trade and privatisation are the best means to fight against the impoverishment of people throughout the world.
  • Highlight the urgency of rethinking European Union and world trade agricultural policies.
  • Fight for fairer trade rules within national government and the international financial institutions.
  • Reaffirm our commitment to the principle of food sovereignty.

Large fair trade, activist market featuring;

  • World farm
  • Unfair basketball match symbolizing the injustice in international trade, especially in agriculture, services and public goods.
  • Street theatre and music
  • Film showings around trade in cotton and water privatisation
  • Round-table discussions on agricultural negotiations in the WTO
